This week was interesting and a great review. Reading and looking around my house to identify what was being discussed light up a few light bulbs. To start off there has always been a LAN in my life that has been connected to a WAN, but I never thought to think about everything that was connected to my cellphone as a PAN (Personal Area Network) and I think it makes sense while having an element of cuteness to it. It wasn’t that long ago that bluetooth connections and IR connections were referred to as that, interesting how this has evolved, I wonder how much further it will continue into the future.
Having a Windows phone, iPhone and Android I got to get them all out and play around. I really miss the Windows Phone and love how it interfaces with everything Microsoft that I have running. My iPhone and iPad are just for using the phone and putting all my books on for personal use and school. The Android is when my ADHD gets tired of iPhone and want something different, but it’s kind of big so it just might stay put for a minute. Getting all 3 to connect to the Wi-Fi is pretty simple and all use a modern connection to the Wi-Fi which is nice. (I still really wish Microsoft would bring back the Windows Phone!) I think it’s funny how people think their operating system of the phone is actually directly installed to the hardware but it’s just virtualized.
Out of all the things I looked at this week in and around my house from the “Garage” era, the most important thing that has hung around the longest is the iFix it kit. My iFixit kit has been through so much and seen warehouse CNC machines, AIO PC’s, Servers, Festivals, High Performance Over-Clocked PC’s and more. Through all the troubleshooting and repairs I’ve ever done, that kit is essential for any IT professional in my opinion.
